iOS and Android war in the U.S. staged as divide and conquer

Jumptap Mobile STAT Report

The mighty battle between platform giants rages on and this time it appears to be a game of divide and conquer in the U.S. with the Android OS dominating the South and Southwest, whilst the Midwest and Northeast leans towards iOS devices. The report published by Jumptap shows that states like California, Texas and Florida are heads-over-heels for Android whereas, in New England and the Midwest, the iOS is of great importance. Surprisingly, over-indexing in New York was highest by Blackberry users.

Based on data collected by the mobile STAT (Simple Targeting & Audience Trends) for the first half of 2011, the revealed results are acquired from over 83 million unique users on the Jumptap mobile ad network. Additionally, the overall shares indicate that the Android OS still stands tall over the iOS and other platforms.

Paran Johar, Chief Marketing Officer for Jumptap commented, “Our advertisers are requesting the most granular data available on mobile users so they can create the most targeted campaigns. This new data reveals some interesting patterns for advertisers to consider when targeting consumers using Android devices vs. iOS devices.”

Furthermore, breaking out ad performance by both manufacturer and carrier, the report also examines the same on Android devices in new dimensions. With the iOS currently at .78% lick-through in ad performance, Sony Ericcson handsets appear to be the only Android-based device capable of nearing those numbers with an average of .54% click-through rate, a little above the industry average of .52%.

Predicting the outcome of this battle isn’t an easy pick, although by the look of things Android may continue to run supreme in most regions of the U.S.
