Intex sculpts Vision, a handset for visually impaired

Intex has officially released its latest handset called the Vision, specifically crafted with visually impaired populace in mind. This feature phone was unveiled by National Association for the Blind amidst its students and faculty.

The dual SIM (GSM + GSM) handset comes equipped with a considerably large Braile keypad for easy recognition of digits when placing calls. For those users who are not familiar with Braile, can seamlessly switch over to ‘Talking Keypad’ feature that speaks out in English the corresponding numbers which are being pressed.

“Intex believes that simple and affordable technology can do wonders in enhancing quality of life of differently-abled people. India has the largest number of blind people in the world and NAB is the best platform in the country to reach to them. Intex Vision is just a small gesture to help empower the visually impaired population by bringing connectivity within easy reach” expressed Shailendra Jha, DGM-Telecom, Intex Technologies.

In order to proffer quick calling capabilities in case of an emergency, the device integrates an innovative SOS attribute that enables users to feed in four emergency numbers. Simply pressing the SOS key automatically directs the phone call to the first emergency number. It hosts a series of features including wireless FM radio, expandable memory of up to 2 GB, audio player, torch light, auto call record, mobile tracker and more.

“Blindness is a disability which could be overcome with training and guidance. The Intex Vision phone is an ideal tool for the visually impaired people to satisfy their communication needs. It can play a very useful role in their integrated development” commented Mohinder Kapur, President, National Association for the Blind.

The phone exhibits a dedicated one-touch key for easily locking the keypad and packs in support for storing up to 1000 contacts as well as 250 messages. Sporting a simple robust design, the device houses the FM antenna inside the panel to circumvent accidental contact with eyes. Its soothing orange backlight does not affect the eyes.

The Intex Vision handset attaches a price tag of Rs. 2,600.
