Intel Education 2 in 1 tablet is a reference design for Windows hybrids

The Intel Education 2 in 1 is something the chipmaker wants to showcase as having the flexibility and mobility of a tablet and the performance and productivity of a laptop. This device is actually a reference design for manufacturers to follow, in order to provide low-cost Windows solutions for students in India.

As its name suggests, it’s a hybrid which you can use either as a laptop or as a tablet. This reference design from Intel runs on a quad core Atom Z3740D processor and embraces the new and better-than-before Windows 8.1 platform. We don’t know what kind of battery has found its way inside it but it’s said to provide up to 7.8 hours of power on a single complete charge.

And that’s not all; since there’s a dock attached to the system, it reserves an additional battery backup of more than three hours. The Intel Education 2 in 1 tablet is able to stay intact when dropped from the height of 70cms. It offers IP51 water and dust resistance and comes equipped with a handle and a stylus.

This initiative was revealed by the company at an event in New Delhi yesterday, where Ashutosh Chadha, the director of the corporate affairs group in Intel South Asia and Rajiv Bhalla, the director of market development in the same department also showcased other education-focused hardware. In partnership with CAER, the company even launched a white paper for ‘Creating a transformed learning environment.’

It now remains to be seen how manufacturers respond to the Intel Education 2 in 1 reference design.
