The Instagram Android app now has a sign-up page to make its existence felt ahead of its release. Currently available exclusively for Apple handheld devices like the iPad and iPhone, an upcoming Android version was announced at the recently concluded SXSW 2012.

Reportedly, the Android launch is in the private beta testing stages, which might not be the final commercial edition of the app. Details about how this software will look or function are still under wraps. The new sign-up page shows off nothing more than an Android graphic and a ‘Notify me’ bar below it. After entering the email address, the page says that it will be in touch soon, according to a report from The Next Web.

After a presentation at the SXSW this year, Kevin Systrom, co-founder, Instagram, had mentioned, “In some ways, it’s better than our iOS app. It’s crazy. I don’t think it took us so long. We just had priorities. Had we tried to be both on Android and iPhone at the same time, it would’ve been tough to innovate in the way that we have.”

Primarily meant for photo filtering and sharing on iDevices, the software is currently said to have enjoyed nearly 27 million downloads. The system offers several attractive filters and effects that have the ability to endow images with a creative touch. The list includes Inkwell, Walden, Hefe, Nashville, Rise, Amaro, Hudson, Lo-fi, Sutro, Toaster, Brannan, 1977 and some more.

There is no word yet on the Instagram Android app release date and other details. Individuals who register through the sign-up page are expected to receive updates through email.
