India set to have the world’s largest Facebook user base by 2016

Around the globe, India is the leader when it comes to social networking growth and a research analysis has revealed that by 2016, the country will have the maximum number of Facebook users. eMarketer, the firm that conducted the research has also revealed that the growth in the number of social media users has slowed down, but it is not likely to stop anytime soon.

The report estimates that as many as 1.61 billion people will take to social networking on a monthly basis and if that happens, it will be a 14.2 percent growth over 2012. And it has even predicted that there will be as many 2.33 billion SNS users before the year 2017 comes to an end. As of now, the most number of Facebook users belong to the US who has as many as 146.8 million subscribers and India comes second, even though the latter has merely 7.7 percent market penetration.

The reason why India will be the nation with most number of Facebook users by 2016 is that the social network is banned in China, the country with the largest population. Thus the researchers believe that the latter Asian country has no Facebook users. This year, the website’s subscribers will cross 1.026 billion.

The maximum growth, as we said is expected in India and it is likely to shoot up by 37.4 percent. Indonesia and Mexico may come next with 28.7 and 21.1 percent growth. The highest penetration of the site is currently seen in Netherlands where 63.5 percent of the population uses it and Norway comes second with 63.3 percent.

As we said, the data has been collected by eMarketer.
