India is the second-most cyber attack-prone country: Kaspersky Lab

A report formulated by Kaspersky Lab states that India ranks second in the world on the list of countries most prone to cyber attacks on mobile phones. Russia beats the subcontinent to the first position. Reportedly, most of these are phishing attacks or are meant for stealing bank login credentials.

As many as 40.34 percent of all unique users attacked around the globe, belonged to Russia and India takes the second spot with 7.9 percent. The next three positions go to Vietnam, Ukraine and the UK with 3.96 percent, 3.84 percent and 3.42 percent, respectively. Germany, Kazakhstan, the US, Malaysia and Iran are not far behind with 3.2 percent, 2.88 percent, 2.13 percent, 2.12 percent and 2.01 percent, correspondingly.

Another point that the Kaspersky report puts forth is that Android devices are targeted more than any other operating system, considering that 98.1 percent of the total detected malware were meant for the said platform. And these infected software reached the Android phones through close to 4 million malicious applications. Apparently, this OS is very vulnerable and that’s the reason why it has been the target for malicious software and banking Trojans.

And what’s more, the research has also found that the number of malicious programs has gone up from 40,059 in 2012 to 100,000 in 2013. Also, most of these programs were designed to steal people’s money. Banking Trojans have become the most common tool and Kaspersky says that it blocked about 2500 attempts by them.
