For Android developers aching to come up with more touch sensitive apps, this news is most likely to put a broad grin across their faces. Immersion has announced the availability of its Motiv SDK 1.0, which enables easy inclusion of haptics into applications for the Android OS.

The Motiv SDK offers Android developers instant access to a multitude of code samples, pre-designed haptic effects and resources for easy integration of tactile feedback into their apps. With total incorporation of haptics, developers will be able to produce more realistic and customizable apps equipped with advance touch sense.

“We believe that haptics has the potential to fundamentally change and enhance the mobile user experience. The Motiv SDK is designed to eliminate the complexities of integration and allows developers to focus on the creative process of designing compelling new touch experiences for users,” elucidates Rob Lacroix, VP of Engineering, Immersion.

For instance, inclusion of tactile feedback will enable people to actually feel the strings of a guitar vibrate as they pluck them while engaging in a music app. Using Motiv SDK’s API, developers can simply choose the best suited option to include a particular effect from a library of pre-designed haptic effects. Additionally, the samples of code aids integration of effects into the build.

This Motiv SDK 1.0 presently supports all Android 2.1 or higher devices. It can be downloaded through the official Immersion website.
