While most telecom operators in India are busy slashing their internet data plan rates, Idea Cellular came up with a new strategy to attract customers. After reducing its 2G charges, the company has decided to offer access to Facebook Messenger without asking users to shell out even a single penny.
The service provider has entered into a collaboration with one of the most popular social networking websites and is making it available for smartphone owners across the nation. It should be noted that only those who have a handset based on either Android or iOS mobile platforms can make the most of this scheme. It goes without saying that if subscribers wish to use Facebook Messenger for free, they will have to download the respective applications from either the Google Play store or from the Apple App store.
With this complimentary service, it will be possible for customers in the country to send or receive chat messages from their friends on the social network. They can also take advantage of the new scheme to start a group conversation between more than two people. And if that’s not enough, sharing pictures over the application is possible and so is letting friends know about their current location. All this can be done within a matter of seconds and on the run.
It cannot be denied that most people are using mobile phones for accessing web and of course social networking websites. If Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer of Idea Cellular is to be believed, as many as 50 percent of its data users have logged into Facebook through their phones. This move from the carrier should make social networking even simpler and keep subscribers connected all the time.
Idea Cellular will be proffering users with free Facebook Messenger for a span of three months, which starts when the pack is activated. It is valid until July 31 for pre-paid customers using 2G as well as 3G data packs.
