The Sony Xperia ion smartphone has been launched in India with the Ice Cream Sandwich platform at a street price of Rs. 36,999. The version which surfaced through Snapdeal earlier this month, runs on Gingerbread OS at a cost of Rs. 35,999.

The smartphone draws fuel from a Qualcomm dual core processor that operates at 1.5GHz. A 4.6-inch HD 1280 x 720 pixel Reality display with the company’s Mobile Bravia Engine graces the front panel and is accompanied by a VGA camera. It sports a 12MP rear-facing AF snapper with video recording capabilities. 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage are incorporated within the device which cater to memory needs.

Users can browse the internet and even download apps, games and much more over HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity. Apart from this, the handset also supports Bluetooth 3.0, HDMI, DLNA and NFC. Potential buyers will be able to pick up the device dipped in shades of black and red. Airtel mobile customers in the country who purchase it are said to receive 500MB of free 3G data for 3 months along with 200 minutes of Mobile TV for 2 months.

As stated earlier, the Sony Xperia ion price in India stands at Rs. 36,999 and it’s available via select outlets and online stores.
