iBooks application arrives for the iPhone

iBooks app iPhoneBookworms may now feel relieved as this new offering aims at letting them stay glued to their passion of reading ubiquitously. The iBooks app has been revealed for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Readers may now download favorite books and browse through the library on their Apple devices.

The app allows users to flip pages by tapping or swiping their finger on the screen. A free sample of books is available for users to read before downloading. The books can be classified by title, author or category on the device. The brightness of the screen can be adjusted for better reading under different lighting conditions too. PDF documents can also be added through e-mails or through iTunes on the Apple devices.

Users may select a suitable font size from six included type faces and search for a word, character or phrase through the in-built search function. The new automatic bookmark syncing feature lets readers mange bookmarks, notes and current pages on the gadgets. The books can be added in the ePub format to iTunes which can be read on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Additionally, the bottom of every page flashes a page navigator with which readers can reach any specific page. Users can choose between white or sepia colored pages to read from. The option of either reading in a left or fully justified text layout is also provided with the app. The bookmarking feature permits users to highlight favorite pages or feed in important notes. The app takes up approximately 15.9MB of storage space.

This version 1.1 iBooks app is compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad as well as the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod touch. It requires iPhone OS 3.2 or later versions for its functioning. Different countries are given access to different books and iBooks can be downloaded through iBookstore with any iTunes Store account. It is available in a host of languages, namely English, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

With an active Wi-Fi or cellular data connection, iTunes Store account holders may avail of automatic bookmark syncing on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Users are offered a complimentary copy of the Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne with the app. ePub books outside of the iBookstore must be DRM-free and would require to be synced with iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iTunes 9.2 or later versions.
