Huawei HiSilicon octa core chipset arriving soon, 64-bit SoC also in the offing

Huawei is the latest company to have joined the octa core bandwagon as the grapevine is abuzz with speculations suggesting that the Chinese manufacturer is ready to integrate the 8-core HiSilicon processor in devices soon. A 64-bit chip is also on the cards, but exact details pertaining to this particular component have been elusive as of now.

It was none other than the CEO of the company, Richard Yu who had teased the processor about a year ago and once again he himself revealed that it is ready to roll. The announcement came about via the Chinese social networking website, Sina Weibo. Apart from this octa core chipset, there’s another SoC boasting of 28nm HPM process which is likely to be made available commercially in the near future.

As Engadget reports, the upcoming component will comprise of four Cortex A15s and 4 Cortex A7s, similar to that of the Samsung’s contender. MediaTek recently launched its octa core processor called the MT6592, but unlike the chipsets mentioned here, it relies completely on 8 units of Cortex A7. The HMP chip we mentioned above will make use of Cortex A9. Reportedly, both the Huawei chipsets will support multi-mode LTE modem, WCDMA and TS-CDMA.

Exactly when the devices powered by the HiSilicon octa core processor or other components will be released remains to be seen. We believe the MWC 2014 will be the right platform for their launch. What do you think?
