HTC One developer edition in US to receive Android 4.3 before October

Those who had purchased the HTC One developer edition back in April and thought that they will be stuck with Android 4.1 for eternity, are in for some good news. Jason Mackenzie, the HTC Global president, has gone ahead and confirmed that the device will be skipping the 4.2.2 update, only to be exposed to version 4.3 directly.

Mackenzie validated the imminent arrival of Android 4.3 for the HTC One developer edition in the form of a reply to a tweet by @jmwein. The Twitter user had demanded an explanation for the smartphone’s Verizon-bound variant receiving an update and not the model in question. The president justified this step by stating that version 4.2.2 was only a ‘minor update’.

This response was met with many questions as users pinpointed the high points of the 4.2.2 edition, including smaller menu buttons, notification toggles and more. Mackenzie made it a point to answer each query, in the process saying that 4.3 is so close, while the earlier version offers limited customer benefit.

The UltraPixel smartphone’s dev edition will be the fourth gadget to soak in the goodness of the OS’ latest version, following the Nexus 7 (2013) and the GPe smartphones. Unveiled alongside the global version, the handset touted 64GB inbuilt storage, support for AT&T as well as T-Mobile networks and had retailed for $649 back then.

Even though it is the One developer edition that everyone is referring to in this post, the official was open about the fact that all SKUs will be subjected to Android 4.3 upgrade before the end of September.
