At a time when manufacturers are expected to be focusing on how and when to get in the Ice Cream Sandwich OS for their Android smartphones and tablets, the HTC Flyer GSM version is all set receive Honeycomb. The Wi-Fi enabled edition of the tablet should also get refreshed soon, according to the tidbit.

The announcement was made by the Taiwanese manufacturer on its Facebook page, reports Ubergizmo. The post says that the update will first roll out for the GSM variant of the Flyer in Europe, followed closely by upgrades for the Wi-Fi capable slate. If Honeycomb is not enough to lure users to buy a new Flyer, the key tech specs of the device might sound somewhat enticing. It shows off a standard 7-inch touchscreen which should make it easier to be carried around easily. The slate packs in a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB internal storage capacity, and more. The flip side is dotted with a 5MP camera with auto focus, which is supported by a 1.3MP front facing one. Embedded with a 4000mAh battery, the Wi-Fi enabled version offers a standby time of approximately 480 hours, and survives an internet browsing session of up to 6 hours.

While the announcement of the HTC Flyer Honeycomb update should delight fans of the OEM, there is still no fresh news about the ICS for smartphones upgrade, which the company had announced previously.
