Yahoo! Hub Beta 01

Another addition to several existing services and applications which fulfill the growing demand for hassle-free communication, is the Yahoo! Hub beta messaging app for Android. This cross-platform service enables conversations through text messages even if only one of the users has downloaded the app, reports the official Yahoo! Mobile blog.

The Hub seems somewhat similar to the Samsung ChatOn service introduced by the Korean manufacturer for its feature phones and handsets operating on the bada as well as Android mobile platform. The difference between both these services is that the Yahoo! application will operate across several devices, irrespective of the manufacturer. Furthermore, the application need not be downloaded by both users in order carry out a conversation using this service.

The key features of the application include instant notifications, group messaging, international text messages, and more. Another specification of this system reveals that texts sent using the application are not charged through messaging plans. The service uses Wi-Fi or data connections to deliver these messages. With this, texting buffs won’t have to spend over chat even when messaging in the conventional manner.

Currently in its initial stages, the new application operates only on U.S. based SIM cards. But it can be used to send international messages to countries like Pakistan, Thailand, Kuwait, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Canada, Philippines, and Vietnam. It requires version 2.1 or higher of the Android OS.

The Yahoo! Hub beta messaging app for Android can now be downloaded from the Android Market, free of charge.
