HTC Dream and Magic smartphones unveiled through Rogers

Rogers Wireless launches two of the most highly awaited smartphones in Canada. These handsets called the HTC Dream and the HTC Magic are the first smartphones in the country to be powered by the Android operating system. Joshua Jackson, television and movie actor was present at the event.

Specially made for web-savvy consumers, these phones feature in-built compatibility with several services by Google like Search, Maps and Gmail. With the Rogers 3.5G HSPA network users can access numerous services even while traveling with download speeds of 7.2 Mbps.

John Boynton, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless mentioned, “The revolution is here – with Rogers being the first and only wireless carrier to bring the Android experience to Canada. We are thrilled to deliver on Canadians’ increasing desire for a revolutionary mobile web experience, by adding the innovative HTC Dream and HTC Magic to our line-up of 3.5G handsets.”

As an addition, these phones offer a platform where users can explore the Android Market. It is an open market with about 3,200 applications offered for download. These applications can assist users in many other activities such as scanning barcodes, identifying a song playing on the radio and also finding details about the song. Moreover, users can get an idea about better prices offered for products with these phones.

The HTC Dream and the HTC Magic are now offered for a price of $149.99 on a three year voice and data plan with a minimum combined monthly service fee of $45. Rogers is offering a $30/6GB data plan for these handsets until July 1, 2009.
