HP and RIM declare alliance to mobilize business on BlackBerry

Blackberry And HP Logos Soon a range of solutions for business mobility on the BlackBerry platform will be ready for delivery, thanks to the strategic alliance being formed by HP and Research In Motion (RIM). The aim of these solutions is to increase service levels, reduce operations costs and improve productivity for customers.

In order to boost the level of productivity of the growing number of global mobile employees, HP and RIM plan to design and launch offerings. These offerings will permit businesses to expand the return on their investments in mobility.

HP CloudPrint for BlackBerry smartphones and HP Operations Manager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server are the two new solutions that will be demonstrated at this year’s Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES) in Orlando, Fla.

Now users have the access to print emails, web pages, documents and photos wherever they are through HP CloudPrint for BlackBerry smartphones, a web services based solution.

Mobile users are enabled to print using the nearest printer via the CloudPrint service. All that the service requires is simple internet access. Both the BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers as well as BlackBerry Enterprise Server customers will be able to take advantage of this feature. HP Labs developed the CloudPrint technology.

The extended BlackBerry solution ecosystem can also be centrally monitored and managed by a software introduced by HP. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server software, databases, Microsoft Active Directory, mail servers and server operating systems such as Windows Server are included in this extended ecosystem. There also are plans of expanding the capabilities of the monitoring solution to provide a continuous view of enterprise applications running on the BlackBerry platform.

In order to aid customers in pinpointing potential issues and taking corrective actions to solve them, HP Operations Manager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server connects events from each part of the mobile ecosystem. The single console is obviously cheaper than multiple consoles. It offers customers with a consolidated view into events. This leads to performance management and optimal service level delivery for BlackBerry messaging services.

HP also delivers services and products to perfect customers’ mobility infrastructures. The management of BlackBerry smartphone deployments is outsourced by Managed BlackBerry Services, part of EDS Mobile Workplace Services, in order to concentrate on their central businesses. These services are designed to incorporate the mobility ecosystems for large enterprises. As of now, nearly 500,000 BlackBerry smartphones for clients are managed by EDS.

HP ProLiant servers can be used to run BlackBerry Enterprise Server software by HP’s enterprise customers. Large and small customers can now aim at doing more for less, thanks to the latest generation of HP ProLiant G6 servers. Customers can get more worth out of every IT dollar as HP changes the existing meaning of server economics to bring in twice the performance of previous generations. Further information is available on the official Blackberry site.
