Google Wallet prepaid card issue fixed

Google Wallet

Just a few days ago, a security threat pertaining to the Google Wallet app had surfaced and now the company has released a statement revealing that the problem has been resolved. In the wake of some security glitches, Google had decided to cease the provisioning of prepaid cards to application users for an indefinite time period.

Like the previous statement, this piece of news was also announced by the Vice President of Google Wallet and Payments, Osama Bedier on the official Google Commerce blog. The bone of contention Google Wallet users picked was the PIN code system of the app. Many of them realized that if someone got hold of a lost mobile phone, then they could reset the PIN code and use the prepaid card from the original users’ account. As soon as this problem came to light, Google decided to disable the provisioning of the cards for some time.

An update to the earlier note issued by Google has now been posted, according to which the provision of new prepaid cards has apparently restarted. The company has taken steps to prevent the re-provisioning of an existing prepaid card to another user. As per the blog post, although no exploitation of the app, prepaid cards or Wallet OIN have been reported to them till now, Google has taken this precautionary measure to eliminate the risk of even the smallest threat to its users’ security.

If Google Wallet owners are not able to access their previous prepaid card balance, then they can contact the company’s toll-free support number for assistance.
