Google Voice refreshed with Ice Cream Sandwich voicemail integration

For those who have an Ice Cream Sandwich device and also happen to be Google Voice users, the Mountain View crew brings good tidings in the form of voicemail integration. This should eliminate the need of switching between call logs and the aforesaid app.

To put it down clearly, the mobile application has been revamped so that users may watch as well as listen to their voicemails from right within the call log on their device. Support for visual voicemail has been part of the works since Voice was released back in 2009. In addition to playing out these voicemails, the software also offers text transcripts with them.

Users who’ve been thinking that the app could do better if it rubbed along smoothly with the call log, may welcome this latest tidbit from Google. So from now onwards, voicemails will surface beside outgoing, incoming and missed calls in the aforementioned section. It’s a pity the company has only proffered the feature to Android 4.0 and higher versions though.

But the upgrade doesn’t stop at that. There’s still one more handy little tweak to appreciate in the form of the ability to slow down the playback of such messages. What’s more, users can also fast-forward through a voicemail in order to get to whatever bit of the message they think they want to reach.

The updated Google Voice app may be downloaded from Google Play. Once downloaded, users can click on ‘Voicemail display’ that’s found under the settings tab in order to enable the feature.
