Google updates business portfolio for Android 2.2 and higher devices

Google had recently introduced a new feature under Google Search for mobile enthusiasts. This time around the company caters to the needs of Android owners specifically. According to the official Google Enterprise blog, the Google Apps Device Policy app for Android devices gets three new updates. With this version of the app, a lost or stolen Android 2.2 and higher device can be quickly secured by locating it on the map, ringing the device, and resetting the device PIN or password remotely via the My Devices website.

The updates have been tailored for the Android business portfolio around security and connecting with colleagues. Now, Google Apps administrators come with an option in the control panel to ‘Encrypt Data on Device.’ This option will include requiring encrypted storage on Android 3.0 tablets. To enjoy Encrypt Data on Device option, devices have to include version 2.0 of the Google Apps Device Policy app.

Also a corporate contacts app, Google Apps Lookup, has been developed for simplifying the task of finding and getting in contact with colleagues. Users have to type or speak either the name or email address of a coworker, and then tap to call, email, IM or send a text message. Lookup displays data from the Google Apps directory and administrators can include ‘Shared Contacts’ in the control panel before using Lookup on Android 2.1 and higher devices.

The introduced products will be accessible to all Google Apps for business and Google Apps for education customers.
