Google Reader app for Android updated with new features

After launching the much-awaited Google Reader app for Android devices in December last year, the company has come out with fresh updates. Lending a heedful ear, Google has introduced new updates to the Google Reader app for handsets running on the Android platform.

The updated version of this app comes packed with few of the most requested features including an unread count widget, news ticker widget and the ability to ‘mark previous as read’. The unread count widget lets users select any label, person, feed or ‘all items’ to get the unread count on their homescreens.

With the news ticker widget, people can include a larger sized widget that moves through items on any stream in Reader. To read a specific article, users would have to click on a headline. Clicking on the folder option enables access to the concerned stream.

According to the official Google Reader blog, ‘mark previous as read’ is another interesting added feature to the app. This update enables users to mark things only above the screen as read by hitting on the ‘Mark previous as read’ option. Apart from these improvements, the Reader will now include an official Russian translation.

The Google Reader app can be downloaded from the Android Market and it is compatible with all mobile phones powered by Android 1.6 or higher versions. The widget functionality is available only for devices on Android 2.2 and above.
