Google+ for iPhone, Android update comes to the fore, new apps in the picture

Google+ for iPhone and Android has received an update and it sets the stage for a range of fresh enhancements for both platforms. As per the official blog, improvements in four areas, namely photos, posts, profiles and communities, will come into play. In addition to these, users of the Apple handset will also be exposed to a new notifications tray.

Now, Photos in the app for iPhone will contain certain basic accretions that come from Snapseed. When sharing pictures, users will be able to edit them by utilizing tools for rotating and cropping. Filters like Drama and Retrolux can also be applied to them. With simple swipes, adjustments can be made to the saturation, contrast and brightness levels. Consumers can always compare their work of art with the original one by just tapping the screen once. For advanced options, photographers can download the aforementioned imagery tool.

As for the Android version, posts will now display more content from the message including tidbits from comments. And actions like +1 as well as reshare are also exhibited in such a way that they catch the eye. Even pictures can be previewed in full view, eliminating the need of opening them up, and albums can be swiped through in a line. Once attachments containing videos, images and links are clicked, the app redirects to a watch page, lightbox or a website if needed.

Another addition for Google’s mobile platform is the option of putting up current locations on the profile page by just turning on ‘Location Sharing’ in the settings menu. The visibility, as always, remains in the hands of users who can make it as public or private as per they desire. A common enhancement to both the OS’ in question is management of communities. Consumers can adjust the number of posts on their Home streams and can invite others to groups and even reshare items with circles. Moderators will be able to search for members, control content and will have support for report-remove-ban too.

The Google+ update can be downloaded from the App Store and the Play store. The upgrade will be available for Android version 2.2 and higher and iOS 5.1 or above for iPhone users.
