Google Maps to now be in sync with starred items

Google Maps StarringFor a long time now, Google maps have enabled users to mark their preferred locations by means of a star. Some months ago, Google had released an app to star places as well. But there was no way, one could sync these starred places with the Google maps on their handset.

According to the official Google blog, this problem has now been taken care of. Users can now maintain the starred places on their phone and on their PC entirely in sync. An upgraded version of Google maps is available for mobile 3.3 on Windows Mobile and Symbian handsets.

If a user wants to check out some place in London, then the Google maps on his PC will list the places that are applicable. Say the user chooses a certain place. When the handset is switched on, that place will be right at the top of the user’s list of starred items and it will also be displayed as a star on the map.

This application can also be used to find cool spots, which one never knew about. If users are sightseeing in a new place and stumble upon an interesting cafe, then they can switch on their phone and hunt for the name of the cafe. When they return home, the Google Maps on their PC would have already starred it. So users can never forget interesting but unfamiliar locations they had visited.

Users already having an older version of Google maps on their handset can choose to upgrade it. When they log in, they will be asked whether they would want to coordinate their present starred items with their Google account. By this, they can maintain all the effort put into modifying their map on their mobile. Users can also suitably display it in their Google Maps in their desktop browser.

Users can download Google Maps for their Symbian or Windows Mobile phone from m.google.com in their mobile browser. This app is also expected to arrive in other mobile versions of Google maps as well.
