Google Maps Live Transit Updates

Waiting for that one bus to no avail? The official Google Mobile blog has announced the upgraded version of Google Maps for mobile to enable live transit updates. This new function follows the company’s partnership with transit agencies in four U.S and two European cities.

With this feature, users will be able to figure out when their ride is up for arrival. The live transit streams in through travel agencies in the cities of Boston, Portland, Ore., San Diego, San Francisco, Madrid and Turin.

When a transit station or a route is tapped, the ‘live departure times’ are displayed along with delays and alerts related to the travel. This addition displays live timings as a separate icon and presents service alerts too.

There are plans to progress this feature to other cities as well. The live transit updates are available in the latest version of Google Maps for mobile. It is compatible with phones running Android 1.6 or a higher version and includes other mobile browsers that support Google Maps.
