Google Maps 5.7 for Android has been updated with the Download map area attribute. This facility will accompany two interesting features, namely, scale bar and measure which are already available in the app.
Users stuck in an unknown location will have to hit on the app for getting closer to their destination. It is inclusive of the aforesaid feature that will display streets, landmarks and provide an idea of the area’s proximity.
Those who are devoid of a data signal or not in the possession of a data plan can conveniently opt for this one. The downloading process will take just a few mintues. It will gather only the base tiles and landmarks on the map. Data connection is still needed to come across satellite view or 3D buildings. It seems to serve the purpose of finding places and getting directions.
The maps that are downloaded can be organized in the app’s cache settings. Deleting maps that are not useful anymore will free up the storage space. After a span of 30 days, the stored maps will be removed from the cache. They can be reloaded at any point of time.
Google Maps 5.7 with the Download map area feature ought to be available to users through Labs.
