Google Goggles upgrades to version 1.3

Google Goggles update

Google Goggles has been around in app domains for quite a few months now. The search engine giant has now released an update for this software, bringing in some fresh features. The official Google Mobile blog highlights the most interesting facets of the upgraded Goggles 1.3 client for Android.

With the help of this Android application, handset owners can instantly scan barcodes. All they are required to do is launch Goggles and linger above the barcode or QR code for a little while. The handset then vibrates slightly and the results will be out. A simple tap will allow users to check in-store availability, read product reviews, and compare prices.

All versions of Goggles including the Android one can now identify print ads published in popular magazines and newspapers. By taking a photo of the ad with Goggles, the app will recognize it and then procure web search results for the product or brand. However, users need to keep in mind that this feature in only available for print advertisements that were published in major U.S. magazines and newspapers after August 2010.

Lastly, the blog elucidates that now completing Sudoku puzzle will also become easier with Goggles. All handset owners have to do is snap up a clear image of the puzzle using Goggles and then wait for it to divulge the correct solution. The blog has even uploaded an interesting video to show how all of this is done in a matter of seconds.

The Google Goggles 1.3 client featuring enhanced barcode scanning can now be downloaded from the Android Market. Whereas, the other two functions namely, ‘Recognition of print ads’ and ‘Sudoku solver’ can be accessed through the Google Goggles app on Android or the Goggles section of the search engine giant’s iPhone mobile app.
