Google Glass specifications disclosed by support page

We’ve seen what the Google Glass can do and now, we even know the hardware it will carry owing to the official specifications being disclosed by the Mountain View giant itself. A support page for the device recently went live describing the technical aspects of the accessory with in-depth details.

Let’s start off with the design – The gadget will be accompanied by a durable frame that’s said to fit almost any face and it will be bundled with adjustable nose pads which come in 2 sizes. Audio isn’t delivered through the usual norms, but by leveraging bone conduction via means of a transducer. Where the screen is concerned, the company states that it will be able to provide high resolution visuals that are equivalent to that of a 25-inch HD display being viewed from a distance of 8 feet.

We all know that the camera mounted on the front can snap up images and record videos, but at what quality? The lens has a 5MP count, while footage is captured at up to 720p HD. For those who have been looking forward to cellular support and probably even 4G LTE, aren’t likely to be pleased knowing that it currently only comes with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi b/g radios. Users will have a total of 16GB built-in storage out of which, only 12GB is usable.

The company asserts that the device will be capable of delivering an entire day’s worth of ‘typical’ usage. Carrying out intensive tasks such as Hangouts and video recording can deplete the charge quickly. A microUSB cable and charger are provided to juice it up and there’s a carry pouch included as well, to keep the accessory safe and dry. The gadget is said to be compatible with any Bluetooth-enabled phone and owners will be able to hook it up to their Android smartphone or tablet running version 4.0.3 or higher through the MyGlass app for GPS and SMS messaging.

Design

So these are all of the specifications we know as of now. Those wanting to get hold of a Google Glass unit will have to wait as the company has stopped accepting pre-orders as part of its explorer edition campaign. However, it does state that there will be more chances at a later date.
