Google Donut may not feature multitouch

Android Logo Donut Recently, it was reported that an Android team member wrote in a Google Groups discussion that Donut is not Android 2.0. However, there is a possibility that Android 2.0 update may be composed of enhancements made in the Donut code branch.

The member, named Romain Guy, is an Android framework engineer. According to Gizmodo, he reportedly also mentioned that Donut does not possess the eagerly awaited multi-touch support.

Multitouch support enables users to control graphical applications utilizing several fingers. The most recent news about Donut hinted that it included multitouch support. However, Guy’s revelation has dampened hopes that Donut will possess an open and supported multitouch API.

The information provided by Romain Guy is a little ambiguous as it was only a one line statement in the Google Groups discussion. No further explanation about what he meant exactly was given. This news can only be confirmed once the OS upgrade hits devices.

There is no confirmation if Donut will possess other much anticipated features like universal search, automated backups, CDMA support, text-to-speech, new camera app and supposedly overall better performance.
