Gmail for Android application to soon host advertisements

Gmail 4.6, the newest version of the email service for Android gadgets will soon have advertisements, just like its web counterpart does. This particular feature of the application has not been activated as yet though.

According to Artem Russakovskii from Android Police, these advertisements are not like your regular ones that are simply displayed at the side with a link to the website. Those which appear on the Android application will have a special feature that allows subscribers to add them as messages and if you do that, they will automatically be placed in the inbox. And ads that are not useful can easily be dismissed from the screen.

A library for the advertisements has also been placed within the utility. Classes such as toasts, teaser, sender header, ad header, ad border and ad view amongst others are present for ad presentation. The aforementioned website believes that the Google team is definitely not pushing the envelope so much that these advertisements end up being intrusive and annoying on the relatively small screen of our phones.

Apart from this, some other features have also been added to the Android application and one of them is the migration of unsent message warning to the sent folder. Contacts without a profile picture will no loner show up with an empty box on the screen, instead the first letter of their names will pop up in a colored box. Additionally, the UI icons are now darker and Google has done away with the cancel button too.

So these are the changes that have been introduced in the new Gmail for Android application. Did Google miss out on something that you really wanted? Do tell us.
