In the month of September, the Beta version of Swype was introduced to Nokia S60 5th edition phones. According to the Swype Forum the company has introduced the 5th release of the Swype Beta for Android. The new 2.15.56.14870 variant is loaded with some fresh features and certain fixes for reported bugs.

Coming to what’s new, an accuracy issue that popped up in the last beta update has been repaired. The Swype Beta for Android now includes Double-Tap-to-Edit! This function lets users tap a word twice to open up the word choice window. The cursor will take them back to the place it was before, once they finish selecting the correct word.

A Voice-to-Text button has been added only for QWERTY layouts. Those who wish to access this function need to have Google Voice Search pre-installed on their phones. In addition to the above key highlights, users will now see less of the annoying ‘Hidden Word’ popup. However, it might still pop up once in a while. The word-choice-window will now no longer display names from the address book right on the top of the list.

It is packed in with a new installer that features some long-needed function updates. An experimental support has been added for Chinese Pinyin. Although those who wish to use this will have to be a little careful as it is different from other languages. In fact the company has even added support for the French language.

Android handset owners who can access the beta can visit http://beta.swype.com/android/get to download the update immediately.
