Europe and U.S. tablet users prefer paying for content: Nielsen

Nielsen Media Content Report

According to the latest report from Nielsen, tablet owners across the U.S., the UK and Germany prefer to pay for media content. Another finding is that U.S. slate users apparently didn’t mind purchasing software related to all categories except for anything to do with news.

Even with the vast amount of media content being offered for free, this study implies that tablet users do not seem to have an issue with buying their desired apps. Amongst U.S. slate owners, almost 62% downloads were with respect to music, while about 58% of them included books. Almost half of the respondents bought movies for use on their devices.

In terms of content associated with news, 44%, 19% and 15% of tablet owners from Italy, the UK and Germany laid hands on the same, respectively. In the case of countries in Europe, people from Italy appeared to show the most willingness to purchase media content.

For this study, the team surveyed individuals in places like the U.S., the UK, Italy, and Germany. Respondents owning a tablet were inquired on their readiness to pay for media content.

Though there are many sources providing free downloads of apps related to entertainment and general knowledge, people still did not appear to show reluctance in buying any of them. One reason for this could be that tablet owners do not hesitate in paying for any specific content if it happens to be among their favorites.

This survey is part of Nielsen and NM Incite’s US Digital Consumer Report.
