Rumors about a certain Google Nexus tablet have probably spread far and wide by now, though the recent grapevine buzz spells out something interesting about its price tag and a few other details. It is being heard that the upcoming tab might place itself in the price range of $149 – $199, which makes it sound like a sweet deal.
For quite some time now, it has being speculated that the Mountain View folks have picked Asus to manufacture the hardware for their upcoming Android slate. Tech world also observed that the Taiwan based OEM has scrapped its MeMo 370T Ice Cream Sandwich tab, which was officially seen at the CES 2012, but has not made an appearance since then.
Earlier reports suggested that the final version of this gadget might retail for $199 – $249. But now it looks like Google may be aiming a direct hit at ostensibly popular Android competitors like the Kindle Fire, suggests a post by Android and Me. Apparently, an anonymous source has also tipped the aforementioned website about this being a ‘done deal.’
A dip in the price bracket should usually mean tweaks in the anticipated specs, which seems to be the case here too. Until recently, there were hints about the company choosing the Nvidia Tegra 3 processor for this device, though this may not be the case anymore. Considering the Asus-Qualcomm history, we might see a chip from the latter embedded in the Nexus.
The imminent Google Nexus tablet is expected to break cover at the CTIA Wireless show or the Google IO to be held in June, provided it is picked as a flagship product for the next Android update.
