ECOtality Blink AppElectronic vehicle drivers navigating through alien roads no longer have to break a sweat to locate charging stations in the vicinity. That’s because, ECOtality has announced the upcoming availability of its latest Blink mobile app across most smartphones platforms, which expands the Blink Network capabilities.

The Blink mobile application will enable mobile users to instantly access the Blink Network from almost anywhere. It is a multi-platform, multi-use app which can be employed by both Blink members and non-members on the Blink Network.

“ECOtality is committed to providing the tools that make EV infrastructure work–and the Blink Mobile Application grants access to the Blink Network anytime, anywhere, giving drivers the charging information they need whether they are running errands, commuting to work or planning a road trip,” shared Jonathan Read, CEO of ECOtality. “ECOtality has long maintained that EV adoption is a viral activity, this application is the first of many in development that will connect EV drivers to their car.”

With this new app, electronic car drivers can easily locate public charging stations using just their handsets. On entering the current location information, the app displays driving directions to close by commercial charging stations via the BlinkMap. Users can simply tap on the charger pin icon to receive Blink charger information, including statuses and accessibility.

It showcases additional details for station such as type of charging available at the station, the pricing and information pertaining to the host site where the charger is located. The Blink mobile app sends out e-mail or text notifications regarding all charging status updates to drivers using either a Blink home or commercial pedestal charger.

The Blink mobile application is scheduled to be made available later this summer for free through most mobile phone app stores or via the Blink Network website.
