Datawind PocketSurfer trio of low cost smartphones unveiled in India

Datawind, the makers of extremely cheap Aakash tablets have now launched a trio of phones that go by the names of PocketSurfer5X, PocketSurfer5 and PocketSurfer3GX. All of these devices have already been made available through the official websites for prices ranging from Rs 3,500 and Rs 6,500.

Let’s first take a look at the key specifications of the PocketSurfer5X which is the cheapest amongst the lot. The GSM, EDGE-enabled smartphone has dual SIM card slots and is based on the Linux operating system. A 1GHZ Cortex A8 processor fuels it from within and it can cough up the juice for talk time of up to 3 hours. Its 5-inch WQVGA touchscreen is accompanied by a front-facing VGA webcam and a microSD card slot.

The PocketSurfer5 is also a 5-inch phablet, but it shows off a WVGA capacitive touchscreen and is based on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform. This dual SIM Wi-Fi-enabled phablet sports a 2MP rear camera as well as a VGA webcam. It provides talk time of 3 hours too and integrates a 1GHz Cortex A9 processor. An option to increase its internal memory is also present.

Coming to the PocketSurfer3G5, it is the most expensive in the range and flaunts a capacitive WVGA TFT display of 5 inches. Android ICS 4.0 powers it from within and the device gains steam from a 1.2GHz dual core Cortex A7 processor. The 3G smartphone has a 5MP camera and a VGA webcam and it manages to cough up the juice for talk time of about 4 hours at a stretch.

The PocketSurfer5X, PocketSurfer5 and PocketSurfer3GX are up for grabs for Rs 3,499, Rs 4,999 and Rs 6,499, respectively.
