Custom Ringtones Mango

The niceties being offered to Windows Phone users sure don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. A couple of days back, we detailed out enhancements to the Games Hub in the next version of the OS. Now, it’s custom ringtones for Mango that’s revealed through the official Windows Phone blog. Yes, users will have the option of composing their own ringtones through sound and music oriented apps in the upcoming edition of the OS.

The included enhancements for the new version should not just enable developers to build ringtone apps, but also add ringtone related features to the existing ones. Simply record personalized sounds and have them set as ringtones. The update will feature a new Save as Ringtone option within the app itself, that’s capable of transforming audio into a distinct ring.

Sound files can be set as ringtones only when they’re up to 39 seconds or shorter, smaller than 1MB, saved in MP3 or WMA format and are DRM-free. Custom ringtones can be installed using the Zune software on a PC by simply changing the file’s Genre field to Ringtone in the Zune music collection and then just syncing it in the phone. The ringtone specified files will automatically move in the Ringtones + Sounds in Settings, a new custom category in the phone.

Users get 9 built-in native Microsoft ringtones that are inspired by various traditions in new Asian markets. The ringtones, namely Spring and Willow are composed by an in-house sound designer.

All the ringtones are created to suit the visual design of the Windows Phone.
