Color apps myPantone and myPantone 2.0 for Android and iPhone

myPantone Android App For designers to model their projects while on the move, two new color applications namely, myPantone and myPantone 2.0 have been launched. While the former is for Android phones, the latter has been crafted for iPhones.

The myPantone app was first released for iPhones and now it has been made available for the Android platform. Functions like capturing, developing and sharing Pantone color palettes which were applicable in the iPhone version can now be done from Android phones. The app claims to provide more 13,000 Pantone colors to designers from the graphic, digital, multimedia, fashion, interior and industrial fields at any place where they find their inspiration.

This app gives users access to a vast range of hues from its color libraries. Its cross-referencing color capabilities make it easy for users to search for similar shades from these libraries. Taking advantage of the Android device’s built-in camera, the application allows designers to capture whatever or whoever inspires them. It’s possible to match any color of a picture taken from the phone to a color form the app’s library for further use.

Following the creation of a Color palette, users are enabled to share it with their friends, colleagues and clients via mail or by automatically posting notification of new palettes to Facebook. These color palettes can be sent in the form of swatch files or Pantone Color Chips which can be used in QuarkXPress and Adobe Creative Suite.

Andy Hatkoff, vice president of technology licensing for Pantone stated, “We continue to see a fundamental shift in the way designers work and smartphones are increasingly acting as portable color studios. myPantone for the iPhone was our first mobile application. Since its release, our Facebook community has been passionate about telling us the features they would like to see in future versions, including CMYK values and display calibration for more accurate color representation on screen. And, as the mobile market continues to expand, requests for an Android version of myPantone could not be ignored.”

The company says that after receiving feedback from more than 80,000 myPantone app users of the iPhone, they decided to extend its facilities to meet the growing needs of designers and thus came about its second version. Updated features such as color calibration tools which boost the look of the Pantone Colors on screen and CMYK support for Pantone Plus series colors have been incorporated in the new version. Also this app has the ability to print color palettes straight from the iPhone and allows users to access ICC color-managed values.

Current users of the original app would be updated to the latest version for free. The upgraded app is capable of being connected to the Pantone color manager desktop software for uploading color managed data of Pantone Colors based on ICC color output device profiles. Users can adjust the screen of their iPhones to have a look at the color-corrected Pantone Colors within the application.

The myPantone app for Android phones can be downloaded from the Android Market store for a price of $7.99. The myPantone 2.0 app for the iPhone is available to download for new users via the App Store for $9.99.
