CollectAPhone.com initiates mobile phone recycling

CollectAPhone Phone Recycle CollectAPhone has pledged to protect the environment, and its goal is to save the environment from 1 million used mobile phones this year. Through this process, the company would be raising funds for charities.

CollectAPhone provides easier means to recycle a used mobile phone, smartphone or PDA in minutes and offers free printable shipping labels. The company sends money to NGOs for every phone they receive irrespective of the handset’s age or state.

“We have made it our responsibility to ensure that these phones do not end up damaging our planet. Our goal is to save 1,000,000 phones this year,” stated Mendel Mendelovits, Founder of CollectAPhone.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) research, more than 100 million used mobile phones end up in landfills every year, resulting in destructive effects on the environment. If the mobile phones are disposed inappropriately then harmful substances like lead and cadmium are released into the air and water supply. Further, valuables such as copper and other materials in mobile phones are wasted which could be retrieved.

A donor can simply log onto CollectAPhone.com and look for their favorite non-profit organization by name or by zip code to find nearby organizations. Once the NGO is chosen, the donor can print a pre-paid postage label that can be used to ship their phone to CollectAPhone for free. The phone is then checked and a percentage of the phone’s value is sent to the non-profit organization that the donor has selected.

Presently, there are more than 3,50,000 active charities in CollectAPhone’s website database.
