Cambodia’s magical Angkor temples come to Google Street View

Google Street View will now let you visit the hauntingly beautiful Angkor temples of Cambodia without leaving your comfortable couch. The company has announced the addition of 360-degree photos of these venerable monuments, the forests surrounding them and the ancient roads leading to them, through a post on its official Google Lat Long blog.

The Angkor temples sit on the relics of cities of the Khmer Hindu-Buddhist empire which once existed in this Southeast Asian region. Many important elements of the country’s rich heritage such as the Ramayana’s Battle of Lanka bas relief carvings in the Angkor Wat temple complex and the Bayon temple amongst others can be explored through these maps.

The entire collection of pictures added to Street View cover more than 90,000 panoramic views. These were captured using everything from Street View cars to Trekkers to tripods. The photos document the network of over 100 temples constructed through 500 years and occupying 400 square kilometers of land.

Taking a trip through the enchanted Angkor temple sites through Street View will require you to have Google Maps installed on your PC or mobile device. Or you could hit this link and thoroughly fail to resist the power of art and culture, the lazier couch potato way.
