Urging potential users to ‘get wet and be worry free’ is the latest Boost Mobile Kyocera Hydro phone. As the name very clearly suggests, the handset is touted to be IPX5 and IPX7 ratified that renders the device waterproof.

The front panel of the Kyocera handset in question is dominated by a 3.5-inch touchscreen. ICS runs the complete show here, while a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor operates under the hood. A 3.2MP snapper is affixed on the back panel along with a flash and video camcorder.

“With other water-soaked smartphones, consumers instantly move into MacGyver mode attempting to beat the odds with dry rice, Ziploc bags and other home remedies that rarely work. With the Kyocera Hydro, consumers can eliminate the panic of water damage and just enjoy their affordable Android-powered smartphone paired with Boost’s award-winning no-contract service with payments that shrink over time,” remarked Andre Smith, vice president-Boost Mobile.

The smartphone seems to be advertised for its waterproof capabilities more than anything else. According to the company, the phone can be submerged in nearly 3 feet of fresh water for a span of 30 minutes. As an added advantage, the handset also features an Eco Mode for conserving battery life.

According to the Boost Mobile Kyocera Hydro release date and price details, the device can be picked for $129.99 starting August 3. It is expected to be made available via the carrier’s stores and online. The cost is attached to a no-contract Android Monthly Unlimited plan with Shrinking Payments for $55.
