BlackBerry OS 10.1 update rolling out to Z10

The BlackBerry OS 10.1 update has started rolling out for the Z10 in some parts of the world, but the company is yet to acknowledge it officially. The first major update for the latest platform of the Canadian conglomerate will be received by users around the globe within the next few weeks.

The guys over at GSMArena found out that the BlackBerry OS 10.1 has already been beamed to some customers in Philippines and requires a download of almost 1GB. It would have been rolled out sooner or later as it was seeded to developers back in April. As the OEM hasn’t announced anything about it, a changelog for the same has not gone official, but we have a fair idea about all the features of the new version.

With this upgrade in place, customers will notice a change in the quality of pictures clicked using the built-in camera, thanks to the all-new HDR options. PIN to PIN messaging is another function which has found its way into the device in question and it will also be integrated with BB Hub. APN editing will be permitted as well, but it could be restricted to some carriers. The sharing menu will be drenched in the shade of black and instead of displaying a word with a spelling error in blue, the device will now highlight it in green.

BBM addicts will be glad to know that they no longer have to punch in the names of the people to whom they wish to broadcast a message, the ‘select all’ mode will come in handy for the same. Checking updates on BB World will be much more simple and customers will also be able to launch applications directly from the app store.

And if that’s not enough, the update tags along demos, walkthroughs and help menus to assist users after initial boot. Some other advantages include turning off the alerts for specific apps, completely unlocking the device from the lock screen using the power button and the ability to paste a phone number directly to the dialpad.

Until now, only developers were lucky enough to make the most of these attributes, but now even owners of the BlackBerry Z10 will be able to take advantage of the BB OS 10.1 platform. As we mentioned above, it will be available to all users in a few weeks.
