BlackBerry brings forth low-cost plan for certain regions in India

BlackBerry loyalists located within fifteen different circles from all over India can now grab the benefits of BB services at a lowered price of Rs. 129 per month. Paying this amount will grant users access to email, BB Messenger, instant messaging, social networking, Internet browsing and the BB World application store. The cap will be placed at 1GB however, and the plan will be offered only by Aircel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone networks.

The regions applicable for this new BlackBerry plan include West Bengal (excluding Kolkata), Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh), Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, North East, Tamil Nadu (excluding Chennai), Uttar Pradesh West and Uttar Pradesh East. Major cities as well as metros have been excluded from the list by the company, which seems to be targeting areas that don’t quite generate much of its revenue.

There’s one catch though; this plan applies only to devices running OS 7 and none else. These include the Curve 9220, the Curve 9320, the Bold 9990 as well as the Bold 9. So those who own or wish to own the new Z10 will have to make do with the existing plans.

Corporate users haven’t been kept out of the loop either. They can now procure BES Express at a zero cost of Software license, providing them with corporate email access even on employee owned devices. This new move from the Canada-headquartered conglomerate sure seems to be an effective one in terms of retaining its market presence against the onslaught of Android-based products that are flooding the market at the moment.

The company, earlier this year, launched its swanky new BB 10 OS through the Z10 handset which is out now all across the globe. This device features a 4.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 1.5GHz dual core processor, an 8MP camera and a host of other traits unique to it. It can be purchased at about Rs. 42,500.

Another BlackBerry handset that’s slated to come out this year is the Q10 which adopts a touch-and-type approach. This one too grabs hold of a number of advanced attributes. It is still to be confirmed when it will be making its way here in this nation.
