Acer has designed a 7.9-inch slate called Iconia A1 which is believed to be capable enough to give the iPad mini, a run for its money. Although the device has been previewed now, it was spotted earlier last month when all of its specifications were leaked.
In order to take on Apple’s iOS 6-based mini slab, the slate in question has chosen to make use of Google’s Android Jelly Bean version 4.2 OS. Its front side has been fitted with a 7.9-inch capacitive IPS touch panel to deliver high definition visuals in 1024 х 768p resolution. Weighing 460 grams, the device packs a punch in its form factor that measures not more than 11.10 millimeters in thickness.
The Acer Iconia A1 should be able to carry out multiple operations at the same time, thanks to its quad core processor. This MediaTek MT8125 Cortex A9 chipset claims to clock in a maximum speed of 1.2GHz. 1GB of RAM acts as the chip’s accomplice and helps the latter maintain an improved multitasking experience as well as smooth navigation. The responsibility of rendering improved graphics is assigned to a PowerVR SGX GPU.
And as far as the internal memory is concerned, the device either offers 8GB or 16GB space for hoarding digital content. If that’s not enough, a microSD card slot has been added for increasing the storage. Apart from a VGA webcam, it is the proud owner of a 5MP auto focus camera complete with a video recorder.
Additionally, the Acer Iconia A1 tags along the usual sensors like an accelerometer and a gyroscope and it also has built-in GPS for navigation purposes. There’s Wi-Fi for wireless internet connectivity and Bluetooth for data transfer, while a micro USB 2.0 port and a 3.5mm audio jack have been provided for connecting peripherals. It is powered by a 3250mAh battery.
According to Phone Arena, who spotted this piece of news on Tablet.bg, the Acer Iconia A1 will hit stores towards the end of the next month for around €169.
