Binatone aims small with Rs 9999 Appstar Android tablet PC for kids

Little-known brand in India, Binatone, has plopped the Appstar kids’ tablet onto shelves. This device has already seen a launch in markets abroad including the UK and it has now reached the country with a pretty affordable price tag in tow.

The Appstar has a color capacitive touchscreen of 7 inches and most importantly, a compact 14cm x 21.4cm x 1.8cm build so that it can be easily handled by kids. It hides a 1GHz processor and 4GB of flash memory under the hood. There’s also up to 16GB of expandability for those in need of additional hoarding space.

This Binatone slate has a front facing camera and motion sensors. Since it’s created for the little ones, the company has included parental controls, apart from pre-loaded educational apps and games. It features Wi-Fi connectivity to allow for accessing and downloading applications. There’s no word on the kind of battery used in the device, but it is said to offer more than 3 hours of web browsing time.

Pegged at Rs 9,999, the tablet is designed for children aged 4 years or older. It is colored a shade of black and can be accessorized with an orange protective cover and a stylus (as seen below). But the company hasn’t specified whether these add-ons will be available to Indian audiences too. There’s one more thing, we don’t know if this market is ready to indulge pre-teen kids when it comes to such gadgets.

No major online retailers in India have started stocking the Binatone tablet as yet. But we will update this post with the details as soon as they’re out.
