BerryStore will provide applications for all Blackberry phones

BerryStore BlackberryWell it’s hardly a day since Research In Motion (RIM) revealed plans of launching a new application store called the Blackberry Application Center. Seems like they already have competition in a new and independent app store called the BerryStore.

Already launched, the BerryStore is actually much better than the official BlackBerry Application Center. This is mainly because the applications in the BerryStore will not only cater to the upcoming BlackBerry Storm, but will also provide applications for older Blackberry handsets. Other than working across both old and new BlackBerries alike, the BerryStore will also work perfectly across carriers.

Using a standalone client on your Blackberry to search and browse applications, the BerryStore lets you effortlessly connect to the BlackBerry browser when you need to download something.

This is pretty much in contrast to the official Blackberry App Center which is apparently carrier specific with different apps for different carriers. Coming back to the BerryStore, though it doesn’t boast of great content it should satisfy your basic application needs. The store mainly consist of location based services, Google related apps and book mark icons for news services. On board are around 40 apps ranging from Loopt, 3Jam, and TwitterBerry to Obopay, Citysense and Google Mobile.

While presently all applications are free, the coming days should see paid applications by the company. The BerryStore can be downloaded as an application itself from the BerryStore website.
