Owners of Apple’s slate can now turn the images taken by their device into 3D models, courtesy of the newly launched Autodesk 123D Catch app for iPad. The photos clicked from the tablet’s camera can be uploaded onto the Autodesk cloud service which eventually leads to the 3D trick.

The app brings regular images alive in 3D and this should make the experience a wee bit more interesting. Moreover, the snaps developed by this iPad application can be used for further customizations in terms of 3D modeling, animation and designing printed objects.

“The Autodesk family of 123D products breaks down barriers between the physical and digital, empowering users to customize the world around them. The launch of 123D Catch for iPad allows anyone to capture, explore, experiment and experience the 3D design and personal fabrication process,” commented Samir Hanna, vice president, Consumer Products, Autodesk.

To bring some more creativity into the picture, potential users can access an integrated set of the company’s software. It includes fabrication services related to 3D laser cutting and printing along with an option for people interested in 3D templates and personal fabrication.

The software essentially serves as a proper platform for capturing, improving and developing advanced photos and models. Additionally, it features the My Corner feature that allows iPad owners to store all of the 123D design projects in the cloud.

Files made with apps like 123D Make, Catch and Sculpt can be shared to delve into more ideas or develop physical objects using any of the fabrication services. There’s also an online gallery that houses every user’s work that should enable some exchange of thought as well.

The Autodesk 123D Catch app for iPad is now up for download via iTunes and it’s free of charge.
