AT&T updates for smartphone customers with unlimited data plans

AT&T Logo For efficiency in the management of mobile data, AT&T has come up with an update for its customers with unlimited data plans. Because of the limitless aspect of the plans, there is a small minority who have been making use of data extensively and they consist five percent of all users. This has resulted in serious wireless spectrum crunch and network congestion.

AT&T has decided to reduce the data throughput speeds of those minority five percent users for their coming billing cycle. These customers are using twelve times more data than the average of all other smartphone data customers. From October 1, these users will be experiencing slower speeds in order to reduce network traffic. However their speeds will be restored when the next billing cycle commences.

Other users will not be affected by this change which has been bought about for providing enhanced service experience to all. Users among the top five percent who will be affected by the change are those who stream huge amounts of video and music everyday over the wireless network which doesn’t include operations by Wi-Fi. They also send large video data files, download many games and remote web camera apps. These activities utilize data in a quick manner. It doesn’t depend on the time spent for data usage but on the type of data utilized or downloaded.

Customers of the unlimited data plans can either continue with it or transfer to a tiered one wherein they won’t have to experience slower speeds but would be paying more for extra data.
