AT&T reduces unlimited data plan speeds after specified usage

AT&T Unlimited Data Plan 01

Users of AT&T unlimited data plans with 3G, 4G or 4G LTE smartphones might experience reduced speeds if they are found exceeding the data limit recently specified by the network carrier. While making this announcement, the operator has also mentioned that subscribers utilizing more than the prescribed limit during a billing cycle will be notified about it through a text message.

According to these amendments, unlimited data plan customers with handsets operating on 3G or 4G networks will be allowed a maximum of 3GB usage within a billing cycle, before the speed can be decreased. On the other hand, 4G LTE phones can utilize up to 5GB data through such plans before being marked for speed reductions, reports Engadget.

As the usage approaches the aforementioned data mark, a text message informing the concerned subscriber about it can be expected from the company. Once the limit is exceeded, owners will experience slower speeds. Original speeds will be restored after the ongoing billing cycle ends.

According to the company, this step has been taken owing to the increased mobile broadband usage and limited availability of the wireless spectrum. Nonetheless, those who do not have any issues with diminished speeds can continue their broadband usage in the same manner, even after the speeds are reduced. However, users who demand fast browsing and streaming sessions have the options of using mobile internet through Wi-Fi, or switching over to tiered data plans.

Users can calculate their per day data usage by means of the AT&T data calculator that’s available on the service provider’s website.
