Reinventing classics seems to be a good way of repackaging nostalgia with a contemporary touch and attempting to do something similar is the Atari Breakout: Boost game which was recently released for the iPhone and iPad. The famous brick dashing game has remained a favorite with the new as well as the older generation of gamers and now comes enhanced with several features.

Users could be charmed by the new factor called Boost Control which allows them to manually alter the ball’s speed on the fly by increasing or reducing it for acquiring better scores. Launched to coincide with Atari’s 40th anniversary, this title claims to feature improved graphics and richer gameplay. A variety of power ups can be put to use by gamers including fire, acid, splitting, and grenade balls.

“We’ve seen great success on the iTunes App Store – first with Atari’s Greatest Hits this summer and again with the recent launch of Asteroids: Gunner, the first original version of one of our classic and world-renowned franchises available for iOS devices: iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Today’s launch builds off of and continues that success, bringing the official version of one of the most popular game genres of all time to legions of Atari fans and iOS gamers alike,” elaborated Jim Wilson, CEO of Atari.

Players have to get through 5 free levels and if they yearn for more brick dashing fun, the title offers more than 200 levels through in-app purchase. For users to boast about high scores, the title has been integrated with Game Center and OpenFeint that display score leaderboards and achievements.

The Atari Breakout: Boost game can now be downloaded for free from the App Store.
