Asus plans Zest smartphone

Asus ZestWell…well, the iPhone competition seems to be getting tougher with each passing day. Brace yourself for Asus’s new blower. The latest buzz is that the Taiwanese Computer giant is readying for a new smartphone Zest aka Glaxy 7 also dubbed as Crystal. The smartphone is expected to bring some tough competition to both Apple’s iPhone and the Samsung Omnia.

A supposed iPhone beater (you never know it could also be an Omnia-killer), the cute little fellow promises to bring some style to Asus’s touchscreen handset catalogue. The phone sports a front camera along with a Blackberry-like trackball pointing device powered with Windows Mobile 6 OS underneath. With a huge, accelerometer-enabled 3.5” touchscreen capable of displaying 800×480 pixels, the Zest seems to be quite similar to the Samsung Omnia.

Asus’s very own assault on the iPhone, the smarty appears to be the ultimate phone for high–powered business types and infuriating tech posers. Rumoured features include a HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 5-megapixel digital camera minus Flash, up to 4GB of internal memory and expansion via MicroSD card.

Though the phone has not been officially announced by Asus, it is apparently due to appear in November 2008.

Well seems like this year’s round of iPhone fanciers have not all been announced…we’re damn sure there are many more in pipeline.
