Apple’s Rs 23,000 iPhone 4 for India is a joke

Would you actually buy the outdated Apple iPhone 4 for Rs 23,000 in India? The company seems convinced that fans who don’t want to shell out a premium for the latest generation iPhone 5S and the 5C or even the 4S, would be glad to lay hands on anything Apple at a reasonable price. An earlier report suggested that the iPhone 4 will be sold for Rs 15,000 on EMI or buyback schemes.

This was followed by another unconfirmed story putting a cost of Rs 100 shy of Rs 23,000 to the 8GB iPhone 4. The base model of the 4S is pegged at Rs 31,500 in India. You’d have to lay out upwards from Rs 41,900 in cash for the iPhone 5S. Now would Rs 23,000 for a smartphone carrying a single core processor, 512MB RAM and only 8GB storage be a sound buying decision?

Apple iPhone 4

It’s true that Apple products get their reputation from all the R&D the company invests in them. But is all the R&D in the world worth a old handset like this one? The 16GB KitKat-based Nexus 5 with its 2.2GHz quad core processor, 2GB RAM, 4.95-inch display, 8MP camera and 1.3MP webcam, can be grabbed for Rs 29,000.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 with its 5.2-inch screen, Jelly Bean 4.3 OS, 8MP and 1.9MP cameras, 1.2GHz quad core chipset, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB ROM, 64GB microSD card support and dual SIM slots, is priced at Rs 23,000. The Micromax Canvas XL and Xolo Q3000, HTC Desire 600; need we say more?

Rs 23,000 for the outdated iPhone 4? You’ve got to be kidding us, Apple.
