The advent of numerous smart devices featuring enhanced gaming capabilities has largely caught most gamers’ attention. A recent study by Flurry reveals that the iOS and Android video game market sales have increased from 5% in 2009 to 8% during the last year.

The report also asserts that the iOS and Android game revenue amplified considerably from $500 million in the year 2009 to over $800 million last year. The total U.S. game revenue for 2009 was $10.4 billion, while it has increased to around just $10.7 billion in 2010.

Based on the findings, the console gaming revenues gained slight momentum to $7.8 billion in 2010 when pitted against $7.4 billion in 2009. Flurry analysts point out that portable game category has declined in popularity from 24% market share to its credit in 2009 to merely 16% last year.

According to the U.S. portable game software revenue projections, from 2009 to 2010, Android and iOS games have almost doubled their market share as compared to both Nintendo DS and Sony PlayStation Portable.

Flurry predicts a significant growth in smart device gaming market due to the launch of iPad2, upcoming imminent release of iPhone 5 or expansion of Android devices.
